Il sort du Collège Saint-Michel (rhétorique) en 1923. Il est diplômé docteur en médecine en 1929 avec la plus grande distinction. Il fréquente le laboratoire de Richard Bruynoghe et s’initie aussi à l’endocrinologie chez Joseph Hoet. Il est lauréat du concours des bourses de voyage en 1929 et se spécialise en gynécologie-obstétrique. Pour parfaire sa formation, il effectue un séjour d’un an aux Etats-Unis en 1932. Il est nommé chargé de cours en 1933 et seconde son père Rufin Schockaert en reprenant son enseignement en néerlandais. Il est promu professeur en 1936. Lorsque son père accède à l’éméritat en 1950, il devient titulaire de la chaire d’obstétrique et gynécologie, enseignant jusqu’en 1968 dans les deux langues en collaboration avec Jacques Ferin en français et Marcelin Renaer en néerlandais. A partir de 1968, il choisit de poursuivre ses cours en français. Il accède à l’éméritat en 1976, année du transfert du service aux cliniques universitaires à Woluwe-Saint-Lambert.
